Today's students feel writing with a paper and pencil is a tedious and sometimes painful experience. Providing them with a method for producing good writing whether for an assignment, future job, or just for pleasure requires us to begin to incorporate technology, a medium they are comfortable in using, to promote advancement in both quantity and more importantly quality of work published. Technology also provides a way for their published works to be seen and appreciated by a much wider audience than ever before thought possible.
Students today blog, contribute to wikis, post aspects of their live on social networking sites, contribute stories and poetry online. They most often do this while outside the classroom. How much more powerful would their writing become if we use all the tools available to us while in the classroom?
Here in Clarksville-Montgomery County we have several technology tools available to assist students produce consistently more advanced writing.

Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free, easy-to-use Firefox extension to help you collect, manage, and cite your research sources. It lives right where you do your workâin the web browser itself.
When using Microsoft Word, the Track Changes and Comments features make collaboration, peer editing, and the writing process much more productive and richer. This link on Comments/ Track Changes will guide you through the steps.
Google Docs also allows for collaboration in that you can share your documents so that others can make comments (there is a comment feature) as well as work collaboratively to create a group document.
